Found a Way to Play ‘Roblox’ on a School Chromebook

Internet blocks are a pain, whether they’re pre-installed on given gadgets or present on Wi-Fi networks. While it’s natural that unpleasant or X-rated content would be blocked on a library’s computers (no one wants to see that while researching the Louisiana Purchase), these filters sometimes fail to block websites that are completely harmless.

Or if you’re attempting to play games on a Chromebook at school. As a result, many students in the United States are wondering if they may play some of their favourite games, such as Roblox, on their educational gadgets.

Is it possible to play ‘Roblox’ on a school Chromebook?

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, educational institutions have been increasingly reliant on remote learning options. Google has long been a leader in the field of technology education, and their market share is only increasing.

While anyone with a competent computer, installed browser, and a Wi-Fi connection can use Google Classroom, the Mountain View–based tech giant’s decision to bundle it with low-cost hardware has proven to be a huge moneymaker.

Chromebooks aren’t known for being tech powerhouses, and few people will consider them as gaming machines; they’re designed to run the Google Chrome browser and a few other less-resource-intensive functions like a file browser and some offline app capabilities.

Many students’ laptops, on the other hand, may be the only devices they have access to, or at the very least the one device they’re more than likely to have on them at all times.

As a result, it’s understandable why so many people want to learn how to play their favourite games on their mobile devices. Now for the terrible news: There isn’t a method to play Roblox on a school Chromebook natively. You won’t be able to download, install, or use Roblox on your EDU version Chrome OS unless the Google Play Store is enabled.

There is, however, a solution for school Chromebooks that do not have access to the Play Store. To see if your Chromebook has this feature (before you have to go through a different route), simply open the settings cog wheel on your Chromebook.

After you’ve done that, go to “Apps” and turn on the Google Play Store on your smartphone. Then look for Roblox and download it. It’s that simple. You’ll most likely be unable to access the Play Store on your Chromebook, so you’ll have to devise a workaround. There is, however, a workaround, thanks to a video posted by Irwin Tech.

It’s actually a fairly basic but brilliant exploit: A Google Sites-based website was established to connect users to a variety of applications, web pages, and games that are ordinarily unavailable on a Chromebook for education. A link to the site can be found by clicking here.

To see it in action, watch the video below. After you’ve navigated to the site, all you have to do is scroll down and click on the Roblox tab that has been set up. After that, you’ll be able to join in to your existing account or create a new one and begin gaming right away.

It’s worth noting that this is the game’s in-browser version, so it may not run as smoothly as the original app, but it’s better than nothing if you’re looking for a Roblox fix. Also, keep in mind that if your computer was provided by your school, your school has access to your browser and download history, and can thus determine if you’ve been using it for non-school-related purposes. Best of luck to you if that’s a risk you’re willing to take!
